70cl 65% abv (130 proof)
Batch #2 - October 2008An LDF world exclusive, the second version is still batch-distilled in small quantities by the Italian absintheur Stefano Rossoni at Distilleria Alpe in the beautiful Valle d'Aosta, near the French border.
This absinthe is made according to the most classic and authentic protocols, and great effort has been put into the herb selection: the floral and dry Italian wormwood comes from Piemonte, grown in the same fields that supply the best vermouth brands, while the other herbs come from a private farmer in Emilia Romagna who focuses on obtaining the finest qualities by growing botanicals in a natural enviroment and without pesticides.
L'Italienne follows the feminine and floral style absinthes, of which the most famous historic brand was Premier Fils. Its maker feels the lower anise profile allows the complex and subtle floral bouquet to be more fully appreciated. It's quite certainly the most floral absinthe on the market: LItalienne greets the nose with warm honeysuckle notes, sweet anise and hyssop; the taste is dry, very perfumed and complex, and accents the aroma with floral wormwood, lavender and powerful Italian fennel in the front.
Batch #2 also shows improvement in louche and mouth-feel from the first release, even though the anise content is unchanged. A very slow ice-water drip is recommended to fully appreciate this delicate absinthe.
